VASAS is a psych/pop/rock band hailing from Sacramento, CA. Named for a poorly-designed Swedish ship-of-war that sank on its 1628 maiden voyage, the band operates with no lofty expectations — just the bliss of writing, performing, & recording simple, personal, and (often) trippy tunes. The group navigates through a number of moods & genres, the sound remaining raw & immediate. Influences include The Kinks, Big Star, Television Personalities, The Go-Betweens, and CAN. VASAS’ debut self-recorded eponymous EP (2015, Space Cassette Records) was well-received & led to solid college-radio play, several West Coast tours, & one epic week-long van breakdown in Nampa, ID. Their first full-length album (Diving Bells) was released by Death Records on cassette in 2016, and is finally available on wax with Bearded Beauty Records (Feb. 14, 2017). The band has toured the West Coast — most recently with legendary Portland group The Minders, & has shared the stage with Knock Knock, Neil Michael Hagerty, Male Gaze, Tiaras, Christine Shields, Deaf Wish, Los Devitos, La Luz, My Whole Hand Was Wet, Emotional, Monster Treasure, Tele Novella, Buildings Breeding, Drug Apts, English Singles, The Globs, & more. Andy (guitar/vocals) previously played in The Minders, The Welsh Bowmen, and others; Aaron (bass/vocals) plays with experimental outfits The Glass Sounds and Quartz Thrust, & sometimes dusts off his leisure suit for Buk Buk Bigups; Finian (drums) played in psych-noise duo Vol.4 with Aaron for a decade; Pablo (guitar/vocals) also records & performs as Pablo il Postino.
